In-studio: Friday, July 25 – Sunday, July 27, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

In this class, students will work across wet papermaking and drypoint printmaking processes to explore the potential of combining techniques. Students will make handmade cotton and abaca papers using stenciling, pulp painting, and collaging to create evocative and meaningful custom surfaces for printing. We will introduce two printmaking processes, using Tetra Paks and plexiglass plates to create non-toxic drypoint etchings on our handmade paper, which each provide a unique visual language. By layering different processes, materials, and textures, we’ll create layers of meaning and expand the aesthetic possibilities. The focus in this class is on experimentation with the intersection of printmaking and papermaking and learning new techniques. Students can expect to make a series of small scale experimental papers and prints. No prior papermaking experience is required; some experience with intaglio or relief printmaking is recommended.
